Always make sure that the operating system which you are using in your computer should be always updated. That means you should regularly update the service packs and other security patches into your operating system as soon as they are launched on the website. Keep firewall activated if your PC is directly connected to Internet. If you are regularly using floppy or USB drives on your computer then first you should scan those drives before using it on your computer. Take care of the email attachments. Don’t try to open an attachment which is you received from and unwanted person. They are the most risky thing for your computer system because it is another way from where viruses can enter into your system. Never accept any sort of invitation or links which are sent to you in your messenger application. These links may take you to some website which can install virus on your computer system. If you are downloading software at regular intervals then remember always try to download then from a popular downloading sites which is having very good reputation. Even these sites scan the software before they are uploaded to the websites. Even to make yourself completely safe you should scan the software for viruses with your antivirus software.

Finally most important thing which you should do is you should take backup of all your data at regular intervals. You should decide your own backup schedules like monthly backup or weekly backup and then according to this schedule you should backup your system and data on to CD or USB drives. So, in case because of virus attack if you lose all your data then you have a backup with you.
