Your home is a place where you want to relax, to get away from the everyday stresses and strains. The way you decorate your home can affect its comfort in a big way, and the furniture in your home can change the overall mood. There is a hug variety of woods to choose from when deciding how to decorate your home, but of all of these oak is regarded as the best for furniture due to its durability and deep grain. Oak furniture is a great choice for any home as it is an atmospheric wood, making any room cosy and comfy. Perfect for helping you relax at the end of a hard day. Since oak is such a hardy and versatile wood, it is possible to get almost any piece of furniture made from it. An oak bookcase will add sophistication and charisma to any dining room or study, and an oak TV table will add a contemporary beauty to the living room, making it a calm and warm place.

Oak is a good addition to any house as it comes in so many different forms and designs, from an intricately carved oak frame bed, to a simple plain oak shelf.

Any of these items will make a difference to the atmosphere in your home and make it the perfect calming place for anyone to unwind. The natural grain of the wood makes each piece unique and individual, making it very versatile as it can suit any room.

The colour variants will also lend themselves well to any home, as they vary from very light to very deep reds and browns. It is important when shopping for oak furniture to get solid oak, as it is far tougher than the cheaper oak veneer.

Solid oak is difficult to damage, it can withstand rough handling and everyday stresses and strains well.

Most scratches will simply blend into the deep grain and become a part of the pattern. It is possible though, if those scratches are unsightly, to restore the furniture to its former glory.

Restoring your furniture shouldn t be too hard, as most of the techniques are easy to learn and do. In order to restore furniture with scratches, use a coloured oil stain to touch them up. Using a coloured oil helps to camouflage the mark as the oil colours the scratch to match the surrounding area. To make the newly covered scratch look new and perfect again, simply polish and wax the furniture evenly.

This will make the scratch disappear. Another common mark on any type of furniture is water stains. When the water stain is white in appearance it means it has not penetrated though the finish in the wood. To restore white water stains, simply dip a rag in turpentine and gently rub the area until it disappears. These are just a few easy ways in which to restore your oak furniture, to ensure that they continue to look good as new for their entire lifetime.
