Feng shui, Vaastu, crystals and good luck charms – there are various ways you can draw positive energy into your home. Get these basics right for a life charged up with happiness, peace and prosperity!

Feng Shui is an ages-old Chinese tradition that uses the arrangement of furniture and accessories in your home to attract positive energy or Chi. Vaastu is its Indian parallel that uses placement techniques to invite good energy into your living spaces. Here are a few home arrangement techniques that correspond to these concepts:

1. Clear the clutter – Have only just what is required in the room and do away with all the unnecessary junk that's been sitting uselessly for years. This will not only help to keep the space neat and organized, but whether you realize it or not, it will also help free your mind of clutter. Basically you are converting stagnant energy that may otherwise turn negative and harmful.

2. Light up your life – A good home needs to have ample natural light. Do not keep your doors and windows closed to natural light. Open up your blinds or draw back the curtains to ensure a good amount of sunlight inflows into your room each day. If your house is positioned otherwise, look for alternative lighting options like LED or full spectrum lights.

3. The Air that you breathe – Yes! The life energy that you take in is just as important. Having home gardens, hanging gardens or green houseplants are a good idea to attract positive energy into your home. You could also consider using aromatherapy with frankincense and scented candles to create positivity.

4. Choose the right colours – White is one of the biggest absorbers of good energy, while too much of black can attract harmful vibes. Red, orange and yellow are generally vibrant shades but too much can cause anger, restlessness and uncertainty respectively. Similarly greens and blues have a healing, calming effect, but excessive use can induce dullness or attract depressive vibes. Basically, you must be able to strike a healthy balance in the color scheme that you choose for your home.

5. Life attracts life – Try to surround yourself with as much life energy as possible. Fishes in an aquarium or a bowl (if space is a constraint), pets – turtles, dogs or anything you love, flowers or just watching ants and insects help to reinforce life energy into your space.

6. The entrance to your house is the "Mouth of Chi" – so ensure you have a strong, attractive front door to attract a lot of energy.

7. Other good luck charms that attract positive life energy include the Laughing Buddha, the Toad, the Green Bamboo and also wind chimes.

A home that bustles with happy souls and reverberates with fun, love and laughter – that's the nest every tired soul yearns for. These tips to attract positive energy are just a way towards achieving the same end - to create a space that nurtures, nourishes and helps you grow.
