Spring Carnival 2012 will run thoroughbred races through the Australian spring months of October and November. Even those who are not usually interested in thoroughbred racing enter into the excitement due to low stakes betting that encourages individuals to participate.

Betting System of the Carnival
Spring Carnival Betting is set up in a manner that is fun for low betters and high stakes gamblers. The sweep groups allow participants to place a small fee into the pot. After the pot is established, one horses name is drawn. The amount of money in the pot is given to the name of the better who drew the horse's name.
The Calcutta betting technique is more complex and is used for charities. The actual way it works is that the betting starts with a sweep as described, however the tickets are offered in an auction.
The horses are rated by Groups 1, 2 and 3. Group 1 races have the best horses that participate in the most prestigious races. The other groups may have a lower handicap, thus a lower group ranking. A horse that runs well and wins with good times will move up to other groups as it improves.

Five major carnival meetings involved in the Spring Carnival:
. Caulfield Carnival: Caulfield Guineas, Caulfield Thousand Guineas, and Caulfield Cup
. Geelong Carnival: Only race run in Victoria's country tracks and it is also a public holiday
. Moonee Valley Carnival: Weight for Age Cox Plate race
. Flemington Carnival: Receives the most media attention and attendance includes: Victoria Derby, Melbourne Cup (a public holiday), VRC Oaks race, and VRC Stakes
. Sandown Carnival: the last official meeting of the Spring Carnival in November.
Interest in the Event
The races get the attention of most of the Australian population since it is not during other times of the year when Australian Football (winter) and Cricket (summer) are most popular. People who would not normally be involved in sporting events and betting get into the joy and pageantry of the events. The largest and most popular event of the Spring Carnival is the Melbourne Cup. Fans may either buy tickets per race or they can purchase season tickets. The cost for individual events runs between $55 and $74 for adults, $48 to $60 for students, and $28 to $48 for pensioners. At Emirates Stakes day a family pass is available for $110. Children 15 years old and younger will be allowed free admission with a paying adult.
International people to Australia will enjoy the experience of the Spring Carnival races and get into the spirit and excitement, too. If you plan to visit Australia during the months of October and November purchase tickets to the events and make your bets. You may go home having a prize or two.
