Outdoor steel buildings have become a popular choice for residential and business purposes. They are used to house extra home items, as a storage unit for businesses, as a business such as a car repair shop, as a barn, and for storing equipment such as farm supplies. Outdoor storage buildings are not new and have an interesting history.

The early 20th century saw a rise in the popularity of outdoor storage buildings. With the events of World War II, their use became more prevalent. During the war, Quonset huts were built on steel frames to provide housing for the U.S. Navy. After World War II, the U.S. Navy sold the huts and they became a popular living accommodation. After World War II, steel became more available thereby allowing more steel buildings to be constructed. The various uses of steel building became more diverse as people realized their strength and durability. Design and features were enhanced allowing for more uses for the buildings.

In the 1960s, prefabricated metal buildings emerged. They were metal building that had pre made components that just had to be put together. Basic components of prefabricated outdoor steel building include roof, walls, framing, bracing, and flooring with all of the components to install and secure the building. This allowed for the creation of varying designs and made installation easier. The 1960s saw the first computer design generated steel buildings which allowed for more design features and various shapes and sizes.

There are now a wide variety of steel buildings that include Arch Steel Buildings, Clearspan Buildings, and Straight Walled Buildings. Steel arch buildings are often used by agriculture businesses as they are strong and structurally durable. Clearspan steel buildings use big overhead support beams instead of inside support columns. Outdoor steel buildings can be customized to meet one’s particular needs. They can be painted and they are rust resistant when they have a protective coating. They are also weather resistant and resistant to vermin and termites.

Advantages of steel buildings include: they are eco friendly, stable, structurally solid, easy to construct and maintain, fire resistant, high quality, non combustible, and are very functional. They are also able to better withstand natural disasters such as earthquakes, strong winds, and prevent moisture build up when well ventilated.
