Remodeling your home can be a great way to improve the value of your house and will also give it an updated look. Many times home remodeling is done out of necessity and other times it is done out of desire. • Remodel where the water is: This is one of the timeless classic tips when it comes to remodeling your home. This means to start in your bathrooms and your kitchen. This will bring you the greatest value for your home and the best way for you to spend your remodeling money.
• Crown time: Another great looking remodeling project that can be done indoors is having a builder install crown molding throughout your house or do it yourself if you know how. This will look great and make the rooms appear to be larger than they actually are.
• Consider a face lift: Another way to bring about an instant improvement to your home is by painting the outside of it. Sometimes a new color for the outside of your house can mean all the difference in the world. If you do decide to repaint the house just be sure that you use quality paint. You can save some money by going with cheap paint but this will have you either repainting the house in just a couple of years or have a dull looking g house once again. If you use quality paint, the house will stay looking better longer. Don’t forget to save a small amount of paint just in case you ever find yourself with the task of having to do a touch up.
• Consider curb appeal: Curb appeal is how your house looks from the street or basically what other people see when passing by. Consider revamping your landscaping by ensuring that all of your bushes are cut back and all your trees are trimmed as much as possible. You may even want to take your remodeling opportunity to add some new plants or trees into your landscaping mix. Another easy way to increase curb appeal is by renting a pressure washer and using it to clean the drive way, under the soffit of your house and even the roof if you are not afraid of heights. Nothing gives more curb appeal than a clean looking yard and driveway.
• Know your codes: If you plan on doing a lot of the remodeling yourself, be sure that you know what the local codes are. This is easily accomplished by visiting your local code enforcement office and asking them if there are any permits that need to be obtained before you start your work. This can save you a rather hefty fee if you are caught remodeling without a permit you were supposed to have.
If you plan on selling your home then you of course want to go with the less expensive sprucing up of the home. But if you are going to stay for a while, then you may want to spend the money to get a bit more up to date. Either way, remodeling your home is a great way to add some extra equity to it, even if it does come in the form of sweat equity.
