Bamboo laminate flooring is the most recent variety being offered in the laminate flooring industry these days. The influence of bamboo laminate flooring is Asian. Its appeal is mainly due to its light color and thinly defined strips. Its history can be traced to the Ming Dynasty of China which advocated the used of bamboo flooring and bedding. It was espoused due to the fact that bamboo was available all over China and because bamboo is hard, durable and plentiful, it was a renewable resource that could be constantly tapped for the country. These days, bamboo flooring is being espoused for its green impact on the environment. Bamboo flooring is resistant to denting, spill and moisture proof, durable and strong. Much more, bamboo flooring is very easy to maintain.

Bamboo laminate flooring is a unique alternate to those that cannot afford the high construction cost of making a bamboo floor. Its appeal to the mass market is one that is gaining ground especially with the Zen and minimalist influence rampant in today’s interiors. The appearance of bamboo laminate flooring in a Zen inspired home distresses the owner from the everyday obligations and activities faced. Different styles have emerged: horizontal and vertical patterns, strand woven bamboo and engineered bamboo flooring. These also come in natural blond, carbonized, and stained flooring colors. Bamboo symbolizes and represents longevity, strength, flexibility, resiliency and nature. It is often times a choice material for Feng Shui experts to recommend to people’s homes.

Bamboo has come into light more importantly as a green material. Since it is an easily renewable material which just takes 4 years to grow, unlike hardwood trees which at the earliest can be harvested in 10 years and whose impact on the environment upon being cut is great, it has become an alternative flooring system to be used these days. The variety of bamboo most commonly used for bamboo flooring is the Maso Variety. Bamboo is also easily transported because of its light weight, thereby conserving precious fuel for transport vehicles, minimizing carbon emission.

There is a story in Asia regarding the legend of bamboo. In the forest, the larger trees often made fun of the bamboo since it was skinny and bendable and not big and heavy as they were. To which the bamboo just smiled and said nothing. Time came when a great wind befell on them. The large trees were either uprooted or had most of their branches broken. All the while, the bamboo just swayed in the wind, whistling about, as it bends back and forth, forwards and backwards, adjusting and adapting to the situation. After the heavy winds, none of the big trees were complete. All had broken branches and some were uprooted and lay on the ground. The ones that stood tall among the forest were the bamboo.

Bamboo laminate flooring is a visual aid to help relax the homeowners who cannot afford placing the real thing. It is a great and inexpensive alternative to feng shui your house enabling good luck to your home.
