During the winter, in bed is the favored location for most people. Your bed is warm and snuggly. It is soft and comfortable. Especially when the snow is coming down outside, or the sun has yet to peak over the horizon, there is no better place to be than bed. And there is no better way to make your bed warm and inviting than with a thick duvet and attractive duvet cover.

What happens in the summer, however? Then you don t want your bed to counter the effects of the fan or air conditioner. Instead you want your bed to be cool and comfortable, a place from which you can spring refreshed and ready to enjoy the summer s day. During this season too, there is nothing better you can choose than a thin duvet and a brightly colored duvet cover.

How is it that the same kind of bed clothes are appropriate for both summer and winter? Most of us go through the annual ritual of adding and subtracting blankets and comforters from our beds as the seasons change. This leads to a cumbersome pile of blankets that inhibit your movement during the winter, and a closet full of unwanted bedding during the summer. With a duvet you can cut down on your overall bedding and still find the seasonal comfort you want.

A duvet is a large sack that is filled with down or a fiber batting. It is covered with a duvet cover, an attractive and removable cover that makes washing your duvet easy. Duvets come in a variety of thicknesses, and their warmth is determined by their thickness. If you decide to buy a duvet, you should look for its tog rating.

A tog is a measure of thermal resistance, essentially how much of your body heat will be allowed to escape through the duvet. A lower rating means it s good for summers and a higher rating ensures warmth during the winters. If you initially purchase two duvets you can rotate them seasonally. Since they are primarily filled with air and feathers, you can vacuum seal them away when not in use in surprisingly small space.

When you purchase your seasonal duvets, you should also purchase your seasonal duvet covers. Choose bright colors for the summer and richer colors in the winter. Because duvet covers are removable, you could even get half a dozen and change up the look of your bedroom whenever you wanted to.

Additionally, many duvet covers are reversible and have a solid color on one side and a fun pattern on the other. Because they are relatively inexpensive, especially compared to comforters, it is a cheap way to redecorate your room.

Duvets and duvet covers are meant to be a singular piece of bedding. Since you wash the cover, there is no need for a sheet. It is warm enough that you will be able to eschew blankets as well. With the decorating versatility inherent in a duvet cover, you should never consider another bedding option again.
