Making Your Website Work: Build-It- By: Woody House

Description : Your second step towards making your website work is to build it. The "build-it" phase will take many hours of dedicated attention to detail and lots of testing. If you are relatively new to website design, you should start with just the basics for now including HTML hand coding best practices. If you prefer to fast track the process then consider with XHTML Transitional markup coding from the start. You will eventually want to use XHTML with CSS and PHP coding to complete most of your website design products.

It is important for you to become familiar with many concepts before you begin coding your pages. This will save you time and money for sure. There are several basic "types" of websites including: static XHTML pages, CMS (content management system) web portals and basic blogging sites with the most common and easiest to use being Wordpress. You can customize any Wordpress blog relatively easily once you understand the basic HTML, CSS and PHP (includes) components and how they interact. You should also be prepared to learn about web optimized graphics and, whenever possible, use a .PNG (portable network graphic) format for most purposes.

For the time being, you don't need to know anything about Adobe Flash and, as a matter of course, we don't recommend that you use any "Flash based content" on your website as it does not play nicely with many mobile web devices like iPhones and iPads. Concentrate your efforts on learning the basics of Javascript - you will be able to implement dynamic menus and slideshows in no time at all.

Another very important part of the build-it step is to prepare to work with social media networking sites. Think of your company "branding" while you build your website to ensure that you can "brand" your social media sites in a similar fashion. If you plan on adding website video to your pages, consider creating a YouTube Channel before you get started with the website so you are ready to support it on the main website.

It would be useful for you to do some "basic research" using the links offered under our "build-it" categories to help you be organized and efficient with your website design product. When you are working with a website designer, there may be many "buzz words" used that you will be able to understand by reading up first. The more prepared you are when working with a website designer, the sooner your website will be up and running and starting to help you to "generate quality leads" and make your Sales Manager a happy camper.

One of the "core principles" used on our website involves our You Do It or We Do It options. We encourage you to build your own website; it is really not that difficult a task and can be very rewarding. During the "build-it" phase, you are going to learn a lot about yourself, your company and your specific goals or target market. If, for any reason, you "stumble" during this process, we can help, right here and right now!

The next steps to follow are: check-it, share-it and track-it.
