Insurance on Courier Deliveries against Loss and Damage- By: Paul McDuffy

Description : When you're shipping something that your company has put a lot of time and money into making, you obviously want to make sure that it is well taken care of when it's in transit, on its way to your customers. That is why most companies that offer Chicago courier service maintain ample insurance on every shipment that they send out. However, it never hurts to ask them exactly what type of coverage they have in place on your delivery, and whether additional coverage is available or not.

In every single shipment that a courier sends out, there should be two minimum types of insurance. The first is standard vehicle insurance which should be covering every commercial vehicle which is on the road. The second type of insurance which a courier must carry is unique to the transportation industry, and it protects the value of the packages or cargo which any courier or delivery truck is carrying.

That courier insurance is going to protect your shipment against almost anything which could happen that would cause you to want to file an insurance claim. This includes things like theft, damage due to weather, damage that might occur due to a traffic accident, and vandalism. There are many other events which are also typically covered by this type of insurance.

The reason it can pay to ask questions about the insurance that is provided is because there is usually a maximum amount of insurance coverage that will be applied to any shipment. This is of concern usually only to those that are shipping orders which are especially high in value. If you're shipping something that is much higher in value than the average package of its size, then you should find out if there is a large discrepancy between the actual value of your goods, and the actual coverage of the insurance.

If there is a large difference in those numbers, it may become necessary for you to obtain some kind of additional insurance. You will usually have a couple of different options through which to do this. Sometimes, the courier company may have an arrangement with their insurance provider through which you can add on additional coverage. This might not be possible though. If it's not, what you'll have to do is get in touch with your insurance company, and ask them about their options for insuring cargo in transit up to the actual value of your shipment.
