Having the ability to change the music as the night goes on is vital to keeping up with guests and their mood. Ensure lighting is minimal but enough to see where people are walking and the music is always in the background.

Ensuring through out the evening you are clearing up finished plates and glasses. Asking your children to help out to earn extra money is one way to solve the problem. Hiring a maid for the day is cost effective way in terms of time to clean up the mess left from the night before.
