Christian Meditation - The Journey to Your Heart's True Home
I was on retreat at a Trappist monastery deep within the Ozark Mountains the day I walked with Jesus.
I would been finding out and meditating all morning once I ventured out beyond the gates, right down to where the paved road ends. I wandered past the tall pines, up the grassy path with the sound of the creek running below, deep into wooded green hills where I'm frankly too scared to travel alone. And every one the manner, safe and contented, I walked with Jesus. It amazed me-it amazes me still. His presence was real and heat, full and tender. I was deeply connected, loved and accepted. It had been a blessing and a present, precious to me.
An Invite to the Journey of Meditation
You'll assume meditation is regarding being alone. In some ways that it is, since meditation happens within us, and you have got to flip your mind faraway from the surface world to try and do it. But meditation is ultimately a way to connect, a journey into the true heart of affection and acceptance. That communion with the One who is our heart's true home is the final point of the journey of meditation.
For some, meditation will feel strange, or even scary. "What can I do?" we have a tendency to worry. "I will be bored and restless, empty inside." But you do not meditate to find some secret revelation, some undiscovered perfection inside yourself, so you don't want to shoulder any burdens. Meditation permits you to easily open your heart, to allow Him to speak with you, comfort and renew you. You'll be able to trust Him to connect! All you need to do is be still.
But stillness is tough too. Many folks are caught within the noise in our own heads, and most folks are afraid to go away that noise behind. And whether or not you would like to strive meditation, you'll think you're too tense or your mind is just too stuffed with thoughts to ever be in a position to meditate.
You're not alone--everybody has chatter and head noise. The unknown monk who wrote Cloud of Unknowing, a Christian meditation classic from the 14th century, struggled with unwanted thoughts even when many years of practicing meditation. You'll expect your thoughts to wander; simply acknowledge them, and go on.
Putting it into follow
There are various ways in which to start meditation. Respiratory is the most basic meditation technique, and for some it is the easiest. Simply sit quietly, and notice your breath. Analysis shows significant reductions in anxiety and depression from simply ten minuets a day of sitting quietly and focusing your attention on your breath.
Scripture meditation is a path might come back naturally to you. And in meditations following Bible study, God will bless you with wonderful images of His love and forgiveness, deepening your relationship with Him.
Christian meditation recordings are another approach to start meditation. Guided scripture-based mostly Christian meditations provide facilitate and encouragement as you learn the meditation process.
Christian meditation is nothing additional - and zilch less - than spending time with God.
There are various ways that to start meditation, and every path rooted in an exceedingly want for closer communion with Him may be a path He can take to satisfy you.
