When Healing Becomes a Commodity
Most practitioners of drugs (any modality) begin their careers with the intent to be healers. Several artists (any modality) enter their chosen modes of creativity to be vehicles of healing for others, through expression. The skewed concept of values that our society impose on us takes several people more faraway from "the work" and deeply entrenches us into the mechanics of selling it.
After we're growing up, sometimes in our teens, we tend to begin to form choices regarding our livelihoods. Therefore many of us embrace the thought that the work we have a tendency to will realize in the globe will be within the vein of helping others. Of course, as children are we tend to not inspired to follow our altruistic impulses?
The essential urge to assist others, for the sake of simplicity, could easily fall among the realm of the healing arts no matter how expressed. Artistic expression summons a vitality that we tend to grasp affects others in positive ways. We "bring joy" to ourselves and others by our playful performances, visual representations, and song, dance and music. Joy heals.
All around us we hear of athletes, actors, artists and singers who, by expressing themselves totally, inspire the remainder of us to stretch our own perceived limits. This form of healing, that includes connecting individuals with their larger communities, was once recognized and embraced as the first form of "treatment" accessible to the regular Joe or Josephina.
Those of us who opt for to pursue one kind or another of medicine (Isn't this fascinating: even I, once years of exploring the vast world of the healing arts still automatically check with things in the realm of treating illness and injury as "drugs;" only one facet of healing!) are 1st indoctrinated into an approach that almost wholly relies on news and the memorization of information, turns kith and kin into comes, and seeks solutions that are designed for the masses rather than the individual.
In the world of "the Arts" itself, early schooling for many is additional concerning learning the boxes that we have a tendency to're allowed to suit in to rather than seeking the total expression of the individual. Therefore much of our so-called education is concerning the re-cycling of previous information rather than an stress on the creation of one thing as yet unseen. Even worse, the career/economic methods they provide outline the boxes that we are shuffled into.
However all this is often only the beginning of an insidious process.
Economics typically enters the image as soon because the course of study/indoctrination is completed. Individuals notice that they have to focus a important quantity of their energy and attention to not the individual or task at hand, but on how to provide a service and derive take advantage of it. The explanation for this is often that our advanced schooling system requires that we tend to place ourselves in debt to take advantage of it. Essentially, most actions taken in the pursuit of healing others should be wrung through the filter of their economic consequences early enough in the method so that these seemingly incompatible elements are joined at the hip and color everything we have a tendency to do.
It's no wonder that therefore many gifted and galvanized folks discover that their experiences in their chosen professions are soul-less. What once was a calling becomes a vehicle for economic support. Stability takes precedence over innovation and exploration. We tend to all suffer for it.
