At this point, you probably realized the importance of constantly hydrating your pets. It is also necessary for them to be trained to drink water regularly. However, they won’t be able to drink the water they need in a day if they always rely on you to get water for them. As enjoyable as pets look when they drink from a faucet (or the toilet), it only shows the owner’s shortcomings when it comes to providing constant water. Fortunately, owners can get a pet fountain to help them in making their pets dink water regularly.

Why Do Pets Need to Drink water?

Our pets have thick fur that prevents them from cooling off like us. Drinking water can help lower their temperatures during the hot season. Much like us as well, majority of their bodies are composed of water and need water to complete bodily function. It also prevents your pets from having complications such as urinary tract infections. In the final analysis, pets who drink water constantly are much healthier.

The Right Pet Fountain: What to Look For

Water Tank Capacity

The amount of water that can be stored in the reservoir of the fountain should be able to last for more than a day or several days. The idea of a regular water supply becomes useless if the tank runs out of water immediately. If you will be gone for the entire day. you should not be able to worry about where your pet should drink.

You also have to consider the size of your pet because it will determine how much water he can and needs to drink in a day. Do you have many pets? A large water tank should give all of them water and still have more the next day.

Methods of Supplying Water

Simple pet fountains use gravity to naturally maintain the water level in a bowl. They use a combination of pressure and small exit holes to make sure that not too much water can come out and overflow. These pet fountains have tall tanks for the system to be effective.

On the other hand, an electric pet fountain uses pumps to draw the water from a relatively short but wide reservoir. Sensors measure the water level, and then the necessary amount of water will fill the bowl.

Filtration System

A major selling point of pet fountains is the fact they all come with filters to ensure that the impurities don’t get mixed with water. Even the gravity fountain has a replaceable filter. Electric ones have more than one layer of filter to thoroughly clean the water. A charcoal filter is also introduced to make sure that water will not have any odor or bad taste.

Premium Features

Some pet fountain systems have ways to infuse oxygen into the water tanks to make it healthier. The valves that inject the oxygen also prevent bacteria build up in the process. Other high end fountain systems place sensors to detect the presence of your pet inches away and automatically refill the water.
