President Rutherford B. Hayes officially displayed the White House grounds to native children for egg rolling on the Monday after Easter Sunday in 1878. It has become a practice, and every year the White House hosts an Easter Egg Roll for kids and their families. It is not continually a smoothly run event, and bad experiences may result. However, there's no denying that it is a once in an exceedingly lifetime event for many participants, and nearly everyone who attends feels lucky to be there.

This year children came home with whole beets complete with the leaves and a very little dirt. They had cups of dirt with planted seeds. They had apples and tangerines. They heard a story browse by Reese Witherspoon, the Academy Award winning actress who played June Carter Money, wife of Johnny Money, in the movie, Walk the Line, or other celebrities. They saw live entertainment and actively participated in varied sports. The 2 hours on the White House grounds were enjoyable.
