Are you perhaps lying to yourself somewhat about your cluttered home and your plan to declutter and organize your home? It's time to face the cold, hard facts! Here are 5 lies we let ourselves fall for about our cluttered homes.

1. I will find time to get rid of the clutter tomorrow. Can we say "PROCRASTINATION", my friend? Tomorrow will come, and you know very well deep down that something will come up that will take priority over decluttering - something as necessary as "My dog needs a hair cut", or "there is a sale at Target" or "I'm just too tired and this is my first day off in a long time"! If you keep putting off getting rid of the clutter, the mess will only continue to grow!
2. It's not so bad. The only response I have to this is... have you SEEN the new TV show "Hoarders"? Each one of those owners of ultra-cluttered homes started out with those same words.
3. Once my kids move out, I'll have a much less cluttered home. Believe it or not, this isn't true. Sure, some of the objects will leave with your son or daughter, but if you have allowed messy habits to grow over the years, you will notice very quickly that your house is as cluttered as before... but now with YOUR things!
4. I like my house to look "lived in". There is a huge difference between a house looking cozy and "lived in", and a house that needs a good decluttering. Can you sit down in EACH chair without moving stuff aside? Can you walk through the room without tripping on objects set on the floor?
5. It doesn't bother me. This is a tricky one. Maybe your cluttered house really doesn't bother you, but then again, why are you online reading about fixing it, or looking for ways to get rid of clutter, if you are not the slightest bit embarrassed by it?

Don't let yourself fall for the lies! Get going! Do your best to develop good decluttering habits, and get that cluttered home of yours clutter-free soon!
