When you see how an simple solar panel diagram can be used to construct a solar panel quickly and for less than one hundred twenty-five dollars, you'll understand why it makes so much sense to go solar in your residence. It used to be much too expensive to convert a house to solar electric power. It's still costly if you have a contractor put in commercially purchased solar panels. It's true that there are still some government rebates and tax credits for converting to solar, but it's much less expensive to make your own solar panel. But even if you can do it very easily and cheaply by yourself, is there any compelling reason to convert to solar? Is it genuinely worth the bother? Well, let's look at some facts:
1) Solar energy will save you money - In a single year, 2006, residential electrical rates went up by as much as 60% in some regions of the nation. Electrical rates still climb whenever the cost of gas, oil and coal go up and down. Sure, it is possible to buy those curly light bulbs that make harsh light and then turn your thermostat down to 58 degrees in the winter and up to 78 in the summer. But what if you didn't have to pay for power ? In fact, if you produce more electrical energy than you consume, the power company has to buy it back from you! And consider this: Nissan has begun producing an all electric car, the Leaf. Other car makers have electric cars coming out soon. How much money could you save by driving a car that uses no gas whatsoever, only totally free electrical power you made yourself?
2) Solar energy is very good for the planet - Whatever your opinion is on the global warming question, the simple fact is that fossil fuels, gas, coal and oil, generate pollutants in the air. The less of these fossil fuels we use, the cleaner our air is going to be. Your home may not make or break the environment, but each little bit helps and if you add your house to Ed Begley, Jr.'s and several million others, it all adds up to cleaner air for everyone.
3) Solar panels are long-lasting and easy to maintain - Photo voltaic panels have no moving parts. They just sit there gathering sun light and transforming it into electrical energy. In truth, many makers of photo voltaic systems give as much as a 25 year warranty. They can easily do it simply because they know the panels just don't break. Satellites in space use photo voltaic panels for electric power for years and years in extreme heat and cold. Once your solar panels are in place and working, you can just about forget them.
You can see that residential solar panels has come a long way since its inception. You can pay someone to set up solar electrical power in your home and it will pay for itself eventually. Or you could build your own panels using an easy solar panel diagram at a tiny fraction of the cost and begin saving very quickly. It's actually quite easy and you almost certainly have most of the tools you'll need already.
