As energy costs go up and technology improves, increasingly more consumers are embracing solar energy for their residences. You will find two principal reasons to change your residence to solar power. One is altruistic and the other is purely selfish. Both are rational. The altruistic reason would be to preserve our Earth for future generations. We have all heard the concept of global warming and how burning gas, coal and oil contributes to it. Solar energy uses no fossil fuels, produces no carbon dioxide and will help reduce global warming in the long term. The selfish half of the discussion is that although oil, gas and coal are getting much more expensive with each coming year, solar energy is free. Look at your gas and electric bill for the month or the quarter or even the year and imagine a lifetime without that bill. So, save the Earth and save dollars. Let's explore five reasons it is a good idea now.
1) Solar energy is free and plentiful - there is more than enough solar power hitting the Earth each and every day to provide power to every single residence on the Earth. As fossil fuels become more expensive, it's calculated that the demand for alternative forms of power will increase by 53% over the next decade.
2) Solar panel electricity is clean, sustainable and renewable. The sun is not going to run out of energy any time soon. If the sun does stop sending energy to us for some reason, we'll have no more use for electric electrical power. Meanwhile we are buying oil from nations around the world where people hate us or else we're spilling into our oceans trying to get it out from the ground. And fossil fuel power plants belch sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, carbon dioxide and even mercury into our air. Solar power offers power with none of these poisonous side effects.
3) Photovoltaic solar panels for the house are easy to make and to set up on most residential rooftops. Photovoltaic technology has improved to the point that solar panels for your home are far more efficient. This means every panel can generate a lot more energy than older technology panels and fewer are required to generate power for a house. Also residential solar panels don't require very much or any maintenance. Solar panels provide power to satellites in space where the temperatures are extreme and some have been going for many decades with no one at all to maintain them.
4) There is plenty of sunshine regardless of where you live. Okay, you'll find a handful of parts of the country where it's cloudy or rainy much of the time and photo voltaic energy might not be suitable there. But in most parts of the country, there is a sufficient amount of sunshine to make residential solar energy viable.
5) Even while costs of solar technology are coming down, many states are still offering tax credits or deductions to home owners who install solar panels. With lower prices and tax incentives to boot, the selfish argument for solar panels is looking more powerful every day. If you are going to live in your residence for a long time, the initial expense of installing solar panels will more than pay for itself. If you plan to move in a few years, the asking price of a solar property will offset the initial outlay. Wouldn't you pay much more for a residence that came without gas and electrical bills?
It is possible to start reaping the benefits of a solar powered property immediately in the form of cost savings and in conservation of our resources. But think ahead about electric powered cars. Right now you will discover only a few electrically powered cars offered for sale, but as technological know-how improves there are going to be more. The demand is great. Now, imagine owning an electric car that you can charge with the solar power created in your own residence! Save money or save the Earth, which ever motivates you, you'll be the winner.
