You may think that finding a gift for a writer will be a challenge but there are many items and gifts that can be really useful for a writer. Many writers do not stop writing even when they are traveling and a carrying case with a place to store a notebook, writing utensils and a booklight is a great gift idea. Booklights are needed when riding on a train, bus, plane or when writing with little light. You never know when inspiration will strike them and it is also a good idea to keep these items handy. A journal and some really nice pens can make a writers leisure time more enjoyable. When they are not working, they still enjoy writing about everyday things and their life.

There is no better way to show them your support. A journal or magazine subscription for writers will keep them informed with what is happening in their field of work. There are online literary magazines that will have information on any style. A book on writing or a reference book will be two gifts that will be really appreciated. You can arrange a meeting with their favorite author by purchasing tickets to an event that features them or tickets to a play by one of their favorites makes a nice gift.
If you want to think outside of the writer box, a nice massage or spa certificate will be a great gift and give them some much needed pampering. Yoga classes or a gym pass is also a nice change of pace and will help them relieve any stress. If they want a get away but would like to improve their writing still, a writing retreat is a wonderful way to do both. Every writer would love the opportunity to escape and just write. Many can’t afford to do so and would this chance.
The best gift doesn’t have to be extravagant or related to writing. You can take them out to dinner or a movie or give gift certificates to their favorite restaurant. Bookstore gift cards are wonderful because they spend time reading almost as much as they do writing. Office supplies are needed and a gift card to an office supply store is a neat idea.
