When traveling by plane over thousands of miles, jet lag can be common. You can try to prevent it by trying some helpful tips. These tips can have a significant impact on you and your trip. By planning ahead you can avoid or quickly treat jet lag so that it doesn’t interfere with your plans. You should start changing your body clock way in advance before you arrive at your destination. Check the time zone to where you are traveling and use it to wake up and go to sleep by. You can start waking up earlier or sleeping later.

On the plane, if the sun has set in your destination you should sleep. Headphones, eye masks and earplugs can assist you in getting some restful sleep. Your body will begin to reset itself to that time zone. If you must stay awake, avoid caffeine but you can watch a movie, walk the aisles, and listen to upbeat music. Coffee can dehydrate you and worsen the symptoms of jet lag. Alcoholic drinks can also intensify symptoms. Drinking extra water is really important. You can bring some along with you if necessary. Walking and doing some light exercise and stretching is helpful too.

If you wind up with jet lag after following these tips don’t give up hope. You can try to make yourself feel better by eating small snacks through the day and a little bit of caffeine could help. Avoid eating during the new meals times for the first day or two. Keep eating small meals or snacks and take some with you so if you get hungry you can eat right away. You need to get your metabolism back on track. You should eat at your regular meal times once you feel better. There will still be a lag in your meal times.

When it is time to sleep in the new time zone, make sure you are exhausted so that you will fall asleep quickly. This way you can make sure that you fall asleep at the correct time. Regardless of your body clock says you will go to sleep. If you still have jet lag after following these suggestions, don’t worry. There are other ways to feel better and still have time to enjoy your trip. A light sleep aid can help you sleep by supplying your body with Melatonin. If your body clock is totally out of whack, caffeine can help after you arrive at your destination to help keep you awake.
