There are a lot of suggestions that one could try to ward off hangover symptoms. Some are extreme like drinking a pint of water before bed and eating a big breakfast the next morning. Many have suggested trying drinking more alcohol the next day after bingeing the night before. But what works other than not drinking in the first place. Prevention is always the best cure.

Some other things you can try include eating a big meal before you start drinking or continue alternating eating and drinking through the night. A meal that is full of protein and carbohydrates work better. Drinks that contain something called “congeners” should be avoided and are usually the dark liquor drinks. Dark, rum, brandy, and red wine are said to cause the worse hangover because they contain high levels. A soft drink without carbonation between each alcoholic drink will help you consume less alcoholic drinks and your hangover won’t be as brutal. Alcohol is also known to create dehydration in the body and this causes more symptoms like headaches and fatigue. More water intake will reduce dehydration and lessen a hangover headache.

Speeding up your metabolism and making the liver work faster is the effect of vitamin C. The liver can process the alcohol in your blood the assistance of this vitamin. Freshly squeezed orange juice will increase your vitamin C levels and help you feel more energetic and recover faster. You blood sugar levels will also increase when you consume food and juice. Sleeping it off is another way to get over a hangover. Your body works on restoring itself when you sleep and sometimes this can help greatly. Don’t fall for the “drink more alcohol” in the morning cure. This can be dangerous and you can wind up more dehydrated than before and then you might even feel worse later.

A good tip that is easy to do is to replenish the water loss during alcohol consumption and replace it with water and juices. Most fruit juices contain fructose and this helps the body work at a faster rate to remove the alcohol from the body. You have to give your body time to recuperate from all the nutrients it has lost. The best cures for a hangover is don’t drink. But if you choose to do so, do it in moderation and make sure to have plenty of water after. It is always wise to use natural cures.
