Improving the overall efficiency of any business is about reducing mistakes. When you work in the courier industry, you have to try and run double duty on this front. You have to try to reduce the mistakes made by your own staff certainly, but you also have to come up with ways to educated and assist your customers and clients so that they don't make mistakes as well. Courier dispatch software can help you with this through certain features that are offered with some programs, and one of those features which can be very helpful is called either address verification or validation, depending on what program you're referring to.

When you stop and think about how much time is wasted every time a client labels a package wrong, you realize that it really can add up over a period of time. There are actually several tools that can help them do this. One is an online address book wherein they can store client addresses, minimizing the chances of making mistakes. However, if they enter an address wrong into that address book, it just means they're going to have mistakes every time on their shipping forms until the mistake is caught.

This is where address verification can come in handy. This is often used either in conjunction with a system for placing orders online, or with those address books before an address is stored in them. What this feature does is check the address against a system which can define whether or not an address is a valid US address.

The system knows what street numbers coincide with which streets and which zip codes. Almost always, if a type is made in entering the address, or if someone misheard an address when originally taking it down, this system will catch it. This allows the mistake to be researched and corrected long before anything is actually shipped.

Every mistake that this system catches is extremely valuable to you. First, it will prevent you from time wasted on several fronts, including having to return a package to a customer, or having to sort out complaints from customers if a package is delivered to the wrong address. Next, it can improve overall customer satisfaction. Since most couriers have a fee they charge customers for labeling a package wrong, a feature that can help them avoid that problem is something that most customers will greatly appreciate.
