Currently on tour in Canada, Guns N' Roses will reportedly perform scattered dates in South America this March, although the legendary hard rock band's website has yet to confirm a South American tour. Axl Rose & Co. have revealed, via one-off announcements reported by Pollstar online, plans to perform in Brazil on March 7 (Brasilia at the Ginasio Nilson Nelson Arena); March 10 (Belo Horizonte's Mineirinho); March 13 (Sao Paulo's Estadio Palestra Italia); March 14 (Rio's Praca da Apoteose) and March 16 (Porto Alegre at Gigantinho). Other one-off dates include a March 20 date at Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires, a March 22 gig at the Club Hipico racetrack in Santiago and a March 25 show at Estadio Monumental in Lima, Peru.
GNR performed at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Jan. 28, but Axl Rose and his new bandmates-guitarists Richard Fortus, DJ Ashba and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal-didn't take the stage until 11:30 p.m. Although fans initially expressed their disdain (loudly!) at the band's tardiness, once the group did emerge, performing opener "Chinese Democracy" complete with pyrotechnics, all was instantly forgiven. "Welcome to the Jungle" followed, and the band continued to perform revamped Guns N' Roses classics like "Sweet Child o' Mine" and "You Could Be Mine."
Guns N' Roses performed 25 songs at their recent Toronto gig, with "Catcher in the Rye" among them. Axl Rose dedicated the track to the author who classic novel he named it after, J.D. Salinger, who passed away one day before the band's show at the ripe age of 91. Also at GNR's Toronto show, Rose covered Elton John's "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" on piano before segueing into "November Rain." Although some fans were forced to leave the show right as it ended, around 2:00 a.m., at least they got to enjoy "Paradise City" while walking to the car!
Although the band didn't perform at the 52nd annual Grammys, held in Los Angeles on Jan. 31, former guitarist Slash took the stage at music mogul Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party on Jan. 30, performing a cover of "Sweet Child o' Mine" with the Black Eyed Peas. Stars like Sheryl Crow, Barbra Streisand, Ne-Yo, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Katy Perry and others looked on as the "Boom Boom Pow" hit makers and Slash performed. Actor/musician Jamie Foxx actually took out his camera to film the rendition of the hit GNR song!
Guns N' Roses are still touring in support of the band's latest album, 2008's Chinese Democracy. The album was a long time in the making, as it is their first studio album since 1993's The Spaghetti Incident? The band seemingly waited a whopping 13 years in between albums to sort out lineup and other issues, but fans are simply happy to have them back! What better way to celebrate than by getting tickets to see the band in concert? Check online for Guns N' Roses tickets.
GNR formed in 1985, releasing their debut album the following year and instantly finding success with singles "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Sweet Child o' Mine." Axl Rose unexpectedly left the lineup in the late '90s after a successful ride, causing rumors of a breakup to crop up. The release of Chinese Democracy in 2008 proved the rumors to be false, and Axl Rose's new batch of bandmates appear to be going strong.
