You may not know about lucid dreams yet, but they are real and are an amazing experience. A lucid dream is a dream where you are conscious of the fact that you are dreaming; and best of all, you're in total control of your dream! You can take the reins and take your dream anywhere that you want to go.

You're in the driver's seat when you have lucid dreams and anything that you want to happen can and will. Think of it as being able to create your own movies where the events are not limited by budget or even by the laws of physics.

Unlike regular dreams which follow their own pace and their own internal logic, lucid dreams can be controlled by the dreamer. Your lucid dreams seem incredibly real, no matter how fantastic the events you decide to make a part of them.

You can usually tell a lucid dream apart from other dreams through this technique; try reading something in your dream. If the words keep changing or do not form intelligible language, then you're having a regular dream. If you can read and even dictate the contents of your reading material, then you are lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreams allow you to make any fantasy come true or live out the experiences you've always wanted to have. You can interact with anyone you've ever wanted to meet or see anything in the entire universe.

Since you're in control of a lucid dream, you can always change the course of events. You can replay parts of your life, changing the outcome for the better; this can help you to come to terms with some things which may be hard to process psychologically.

Anyone can learn to have lucid dreams. Your body needs to rest of course so that you can awake refreshed and energetic enough to take on the tasks of the day; but while your body is at rest, your mind can stay partially active and engage in lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreaming is a skill which needs to be learned through practice. Developing the ability to lucid dream at will takes time and you will need to be patient; but anyone can have lucid dreams.

The best way to begin is by keeping a dream journal. Write down everything you can remember from your dreams as soon as you awake. Keep a pad and pen within arm's length of your bed so that you can write down every detail quickly. You may not remember everything every time - be patient. You will get better at this with time and training your mind to remember your dreams and recognize when it is dreaming will help you to start having lucid dreams.

In fact, writers have been known to keep records of their lucid dreams to help them plan out characters and plots for their stories and novels. Lucid dreaming is a good way to exercise your creativity and try some new ideas.

Once you're skilled in dream recall, you'll easily be able to pick back up where you left off and continue your dreams - which lets you decide how your dreams play out.

The last hour or two before the time when you normally awake are the best for lucid dreaming. When you awake a little early and go back to bed, you may feel like you have just been laying in bed thinking when your alarm finally goes off; however, you have actually been lucid dreaming!

To get yourself to the mental state where lucid dreaming is possible, you can use relaxation and meditation techniques along with dream recall. A lot of people find that self hypnosis can help them train their minds for dream recall quickly and efficiently.

There is also a new audio technology which can help you to prepare: binaural beats. These are frequencies which help the hemispheres of your brain synchronize their brainwaves, putting you into the state of mind in which lucid dreaming comes naturally.
