When you need to get an order out to a customer, your need doesn't always wait until the following business day, and neither does your customer. That is why many people want to be sure that they've found a courier which will move their goods even on holidays, just in case such a scenario should come up. Luckily, in most major cities there should be a number of couriers and LTL carries which can offer you holiday service if you require it.

There are two different types of couriers which might offer you service on holidays, including package pickups. There are those which have standby divisions for emergency requests, and those which operate on the same schedule every day of the year, often 24 hours a day. Whichever of these types you decide to choose to service your organization; it will often be determined by how often you foresee yourself having to ship outside of normal days and hours.

Most courier companies, even the small ones, still have a number that you can call in case of emergencies. They want to keep your business, so you have a critical request come in and need a delivery to go out, you can usually call them, and they will call in an on-call driver to pick up the delivery and ship it out. Because they have to call someone in, and pay them extra for working on a holiday, you will usually have to pay extra for the service but your package will get delivered.

A courier that runs year round might be more appropriate if you think that you're going to have to ship on holidays or after hours regularly, or if you simply need to ship every day of the year. A lot of these companies also run 24 hours to keep up with your production cycle no matter what it may be. Sometimes, these companies can have slightly higher standardized rates than other couriers in order to afford their extended schedules.

The bottom line is, if you live anywhere near an area large enough to have even a small selection of couriers and trucking companies, you should be able to find one that will pick up a shipment on a holiday. You don't want to leave yourself looking for that courier at the last minute though. If you think you might ever have an emergency shipping situation, save yourself the grief and find a good holiday courier before the need ever arises.
