One MORE month has now gone by... and it is time to begin the Declutter Challenge! Wouldn't it be good to be able to come home to a clutter-free, neat, peaceful house? Wouldn't it be brilliant to be working in a kitchen where all your utensils are where they are supposed to be, and where your counters glisten and beg to be covered with fresh cookies instead of clutter? Start yourself on a Decluttering Challenge today! Not sure what a Declutter Challenge is? Simply put, it is a challenge you give yourself (and/or your family and friends) to get a big part of your house clutter-free in a particular time frame. And it WORKS!

The 30 Day Decluttering Challenge

One category of challenge is termed the 30 Day Decluttering Challenge, and the concept is that on every one of the 30 days of the month you decluttering one item or area of your home, great or little. The things can vary from the middle shelf in your pantry cupboard to the toy bin in your daughter's bedroom, from your sock drawer to the kraft supply kit that gets stuffed in the office closet. The key is to be sensible with your task assignment. Putting "put pictures taken in the last 5 years into albums" in all probability won't be able to be done in one day, but possibly "sort out the pictures into piles or envelopes according to the event or person and dispose of photos you do not want to keep" CAN be completed!
After your chores have been assigned, consider planning for yourself a reward to look ahead to after your 30 Day Challenge ends victoriously! Yes, having a decluttered home will be a reward in itself, but it's an undeniable truth that we work harder if we have something extra to get from our pains!

The One Week Declutter Challenge

This category of challenge will call for you to reserve one full week to your challenge. This will be a genuine "no distractions allowed" week during which you empty your schedule in order to gaining back what once wsa your decluttered home. Assign yourself one area of the house for each day, close yourself within it so to speak, and go crazy! Garbage bags, boxes for donations, boxes for re-sell, and obviously some good ole' cleaning supplies are going to be your necessities. Pull your significant other, your girlfriends, or your family along for the ride! The bigger your assistance, the bigger your accomplishment!
Perhaps you'll see the need to cut back and go with a One Week Office Decluttering Challenge, or a One Week Basement Decluttering Challenge. No worries! If you commit to decluttering for 7 days (and really, what is 7 days on the whole), and you'll definitely bring order back to at least part of your chaotic home!

The 2010 in 2010 Decluttering Challenge

This kind of Decluttering Challenge is a very popular one this year. Commit yourself to decluttering (by donating, selling, or throwing out) 2010 things during the year 2010. Does that sound like a lot of stuff?? If you do the math though, it really is not as crazy as it sounds. 2010 divided into 365 days is merely 5.5 things daily. Look around you... the junk drawer, the cupboard under the stairs, your office, the storage shed... that doesn' t seem unreasonable, does it? Tick off your success on a calendar, and watch the clutter melt away!
Yet another way you could do the 2010 DeClutter Challenge is to commit 2010 minutes specifically to decluttering! That's 33.5 hours.... A whole lot until you take into account that there are 8,760 hours in one year! That's less than one 45 minute session per week! However, 2010 minutes is sufficient to get a LOT decluttered!

So, the "30 Day Decluttering Challenge", the "One Week Declutter Challenge", and the "2010 in 2010 Decluttering Challenge"... three awesome ways to begin decluttering your house! Which one are you going to do?
