When starting a get fit program it is important that you have set out your daily goals and targets. If you have nothing to aim for then you are more likely to fail to follow through with your exercise program. If you are looking to successfully further your health by starting a get fit program then you will need to take some time to think about your goals. This is more simple than you would think. All it takes is some planning.

When starting a get fit program you should build into it the following seven tips:

1. Decide to make diet changes and exercise daily considerations. Experts say over and over again that diet and exercise go hand in hand. This doesn't mean that you have to go on a restricted diet for the rest of your life. It simply means that you need to watch what you eat. Control your portions and limit your fat, sodium, cholesterol and sugar intake. In addition some form of exercise that you enjoy is ideal. Schedule this into your routine daily if possible, or at least three times per week.

2. Choose to exercise when it works for you. Don't limit yourself to only exercising at one particular time of the day. Do what works for you. If you like to get up in the morning and workout, then do so. Or, if you would rather work some exercise time in during your lunch hour or in the evening, that is your option. Just make sure that you don't skip meals. You need to eat a healthy and balanced diet for optimum benefits.

3. Look at your fitness evaluation. Having your fitness evaluated can be a great place to begin when starting a get fit program. This will let you know what areas you need to work on and can help you build a better picture of where you want to be. Most gyms will provide this service for free and some gyms will also have a personal trainer on hand for you to utilize. You may find a personal trainer unnecessary however if you feel you can discipline yourself to stick to your chosen exercise plan.

4. Fitness activites can be fun. Whilst many people enjoy going to a local gym or taking part in a fitness class, you may find you enjoy other activities more. Try things like cycling, running, walking, dancing or hiking. These are all great ways to get fit but most importantly they are fun. Most of these can be done for free and others can join in too. Try out different activities to find out what suits you best and what you enjoy most.

5. Fill your cupboards with healthy foods and snacks. If you find you are tempted by unhealthy foods and snacks then ban them from your home. If they are not available you cannot be tempted. Instead stock up on fresh fruits, vegetables, raw nuts, yogurt, low fat cheeses, lean meats, whole grains and rice. Watching what you eat is the best way to get the most out of your fitness program. Also eating the wrong foods will make it harder to lose weight which may actually knock you off track and lower your motivation.

6. Drink plenty of water. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially when exercising. Avoid high calorie, sugar laden juices, sodas and energy drinks. Our bodies are made up of mostly water. We can survive longer without food than we can without water, as the body requires water to run efficiently. Did you know that if you don't drink enough water, you can get bloated. This is your body's defense mechanism; it's storing water in order to be able to continue functioning. So although it sounds rather odd, to get rid of excess water you need to drink more water. In fact, all other things being equal, you can often lose a few pounds within the first week or two just from increasing your water intake to the correct level.This in turn boosts your confidence as you see immediate effects from following your get fit program.

7. Interval Training. One of the best ways to see results fast is through interval training. This type of exercise builds up muscles fast and helps to keep your body burning fat all day long! It involves short spells of intensive exercise and is much more effective that hours of cardio. Try to incorporate interval training into your routine to get the best results in the shortest amount of time.
