Another thing you need to ask yourself is how fragile the goods you're shipping are to water themselves. What would happen should the rain permeate the packaging you're shipping in and get the item itself wet? If this is a large concern, then you should insulate the item from the outside somehow. Usually, the best way to do this is by sealing it in a plastic bag or wrapper of some kind. Then, should the package become wet somehow, the goods themselves should remain dry.
If you make sure to take measures like these whenever you ship something, your goods should be protected against the rain. Keep in mind something when you're shipping over long distances and not just across the city. If you're shipping a long way, a rain storm could pop up somewhere along the route. If you expect this and always package your shipments accordingly, you shouldn't have to worry about rain damage.
