Paver and Flagstone Patios

More and more, patios are becoming extensions of the house and representations of its owners, so to keep your house harmonized it's a good idea to pay close attention to patio design. Both concrete and paver and flagstone patios has their strong points. The paver and the flagstone is the main focus of this piece

Concrete-made pavers come in all types of sizes, shapes and colors. Pavers are exceedingly useful for pools, driveways, and patios, and are held together by granular sand. Thin flat flagstones, natural or man made, are utilized in patios and walkways. They are sturdy, able to withstand climates, and are not susceptible to freezing and thawing. However, they are not easy to install because of their small size. You can save a lot of money by building the flagstone patio youself, however, since the process of building are not overly convoluted and contractors can become expensive.

Pavers are especially useful when surrounding a pool, since they will be cooler than tiles and terra cotta (though not regular pool decks). This is due to the fact that the stones are not connected as a solid surface, so do not build as much heat. If installing in pools, be sure tochoose lighter colors to further discourage the buildup of warmth.
They are also appropriate for use on driveways. Pavers can easily replace old concrete on certain driveways. You can always cover up your driveway this wayas long as not too much cracks and breaks exist.

An possibility for covering up an existing patio slab is to put in new pavers. As long as the patio has no heaving sections and is in more or less decent condition, they can be used as a base and pavers can be placed on top. There is no need to break up the old patio just to install a new one, and this also eliminates the effort of excavating ground.

Although pavers are held together by sand instead of mortar, pavers are not fragile. Instead, using sand allows the patio (or whatever you’re using pavers for) to move along with natural ground movement. After freezing and thawing of water , concrete form cracks due to the massive pressure built up by these natural processes. On the other hand, paver slabs will never crack from that simply due to its greater plasticity.Patios made of concrete cannot compare with paver patios' flexibility.
A final advantage of getting paver patios: the stones themselves are also individually replaceable. This way, paver stones can save time and energy when it gets stained with oil - just replace the stained one by it self, while concrete patios does not have this luxury.

Retaining walls can be utilized to keep them in place. Vines can be used to garnish your patio. Utilize vegetables and stones to enrich and block certain views.

Sand, bark and moss, and anything else can be used to seal the cracks between the flagstones. The filling material, then, should be a component of your design . Bark and moss will give your patio a natural feel, while sand gives it a more avant-garde sense.

Installing the flagstone patio is harder than crafting paver patios as a result of the lack of fit of the stones. When designing be sure to write down where each stone piece goes (perhaps by putting them on the ground first, and labeling them one by one as you take them off the ground), as this will conserve a ton of time and energy.

Pools are also a great place to use flagstone since the stonesare impervious to water and can withstand tremendous weight. Furthermore, they are not slippery and are relatively cold - though not as cold as pavers.
