Usually, when you think of a courier company, you imagine someone driving a delivery truck or van, or possibly zipping around a financial district on a bicycle. When a helicopter is requested it typically means that the delivery is either medically emergent, or that very large amounts of money are involved.

The cost of flying a helicopter, even over short distances, is much, much greater than the cost of a ground courier of any kind. Therefore, there has to be sufficient reason for a company to require the use of a helicopter to move their goods, otherwise the cost is difficult to justify.

Usually, if you foresee your organization having a use for a helicopter courier, this is a type of service that you're going to have to organize well in advance of actually having to do any shipping. You will have to have an account with the courier company and likely have to have extra insurance on top of your regular shipping insurance to cover this type of shipment. This can be time consuming to set up, and so it pays to have the account established beforehand, as once you're requesting a helicopter you probably need the delivery made right away, and don't have time for any extra paperwork that could have been done at an earlier time.
