Back when I was in high school, I was so into music. I first started listening to hip hop music and some pop music (especially when boy bands became popular). It was only in college when I started listening to rock music. It was all because of my friends who later became my band mates. Rock music is not something new to me as I used to listen to my sister's songs like "Bon Jovi", "Gun's and Roses", and many more, although my type of rock music is new school where it has a mix of rap and scream.

But looking back that time, I realized that all the music artists that I listened to are foreigners. Never have I listened to any Filipino artists because foreign musics are more popular. That all changed as I watch "MTV" or "MYX" playing most of the popular Original Pinoy Music (OPM) songs today. All kinds of music such as pop, hip hop, R & B, alternative, rock, and even other genres like reggae, blues, and bossa nova are now being played by famous bands and musicians. I took the liberty of researching our own kind of music in the internet because I want to find out if all the music that we know came from another country.

As for the all the typical type of music that are being played in the radio or in the television, they were all introduced by the Americans back when they occupied the Philippines in 1898 until 1946. But the ones that started in our country were the "Kulintang", "Harana and Kundiman", "CariƱosa", " Tinikling", and " Rondalla". You actually don't see or hear this kind of music these days except when you are in a province or in rural areas. The instruments that they use for playing these type of music are the ones only we Filipinos have, which makes it our, which makes it part of our culture.

Just because it's a pinoy music, doesn't necessarily means that the language should only be Filipino or Tagalog. "OPM" or "Original Philippine Music" has a lot of consideration. One of them is a pinoy artist or a pinoy band playing or composing an english song. One thing that I'm very proud of the pinoys is that we are being famous not just in our own country but in others as well like the US. Singers like "Charice Pempengco" and the new front man of the band "Journey", "Arnel Pineda".
