These days, a large amount of choices for dog food are available at retail stores which can keep your dog healthy. However, the best choice for pet owners is a different plan that combines both, retail dog food and home cooked food. Dog food available at retail stores can be good for your dog, but they don’t have as many vitamins and nutrients as the natural deal. Veterinarians will agree that a home cooked meal can’t be beat, as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. One of the most important advantages of fresh food from the dog’s perspective is the fact that they taste so much better than the branded type.

Canned and dry dog foods make an honest attempt to include necessary vitamins and minerals into their product, but they cannot compare with fresh produce and meat cooked at home. Commercial dog for could never pack the punch of chicken or meat, for example. The benefits of fish, which are full of nutrients for the brain can only be taken advantage of when cooked fresh.

Any dog on a proper diet is prone to live a healthy life, provided that essential vitamins and minerals are included in his diet. Every dog is unique; there will be things they like more than others, and certain food they won’t like at all. They also love variety and trying different things each day. It is not recommended that a dog on a home cooked diet is fed the same thing every day. At some point he will reject it, and his eating habits will diminish in discontent.

Try feeding your retriever something different each day, even if you have to mix it up with something else. This will not only make him happy, but the variations in his diet will allow him to receive essential nutrients included in different types of food. Feeding your dog the same thing each day will saturate the animal with the same kinds of nutrients in his diet, while lacking others in other types of food. Thus, this practice is neither good for him health wise, or as a pleasing experience in the least.

Another aspect to consider is the fat content in the home made food that you feed your dog. Although commercial dog food label the package with the amount of calories in them, homemade food does not. Monitor your dog’s diet in order to prevent him from assuming a weight problem. Obesity in dogs is now more common than ever, and can lead to a number of other health problems and conditions that will take away from a quality life playing dog games and such.

Always follow your veterinarian’s advice when it comes to the health of your Golden Retriever. They will know best about the eating habits of your dog and answer any questions you might have regarding the mix and match of a combined diet plan. Carefully monitor his eating habits and always complement his food plan with some exercise.
