If you're running a company that ships with a larger type of courier company, one that uses full sized semi trucks in addition to their ordinary delivery vans, then you may also start running into references to different types of trailers which may be available for clients usage. Some delivery Milwaukee WI based couriers may have either flatbed or refrigerated trailers available, or even both.

These are the types of trailers that are usually only used by people that are shipping very specific types of goods. They are designed to make it possible to ship things which would not be able to be shipped otherwise, given their particular problems, whether that is that they are oversized, or that they are sensitive to temperature.

The vast majority of shipments sent with a trucking company are packed within a large trailer or trailers which are connected to the semi pulling them. Some items however, are either to wide, or too tall, to be carried in those types of trailers. That is what flatbed trailers are used for. Since they are simply a platform on wheels, cargo of any type can be strapped down and carried. This is commonly used for carrying very large industrial components or for moving agricultural or construction equipment.

Refrigerated trailers, on the other hand, are used for transporting goods which need to be kept at a very specific temperature in order to prevent them from becoming damaged. There are lots of types of goods which fall under this category. The most commonly shipped things in refrigerated trailers include food products, and medical material.

The use of either of these types of trailers can come at additional cost for a few different reasons. First, the company is likely to only have a few of each of these types of units, so they are in higher demand, so they can charge higher prices for them. Secondly, each has their own support costs which drive up overall value. If a flatbed is used to transport oversized equipment, it must often be accompanies by pilot vehicles signifying a wide or slow moving load. A refrigerated unit costs much more to run and maintain than a regular trailer.

Despite the added costs though, these units often provide a transportation solution where it may have seen that there was none. Through their use or the use of other equipment, your courier can find a solution to move anything which you might desire to have shipped.
