When you're running a business, you almost always will accumulate a lot of paperwork that you need to do something with. When paper is taken off site, it is totally out of your control. In some industries, you are in fact legally obligated to destroy information or to have a policy detailing your procedures for doing so. HIPPA is a law that covers health care, and requires all providers to have that type of policy in writing at their place of business. Obviously, the protection of private information is something that both the government and private individuals take very seriously. You can help make sure you keep your business legal at all times by bringing in a shredder to your own location.
