When you haven't been shipping already for many years, there is a bit of a learning curve when you first start having to contract delivery companies to take care of your product distribution. One of the biggest areas for confusion often lies in the areas of insurance, as many people dealing with couriers are unsure what insurance is handled by the courier and which is going to be their own responsibility. Often, people don't know if Maine courier services are going to be sure that all of their drivers are properly insured of if they're going to need to take out insurance themselves.

Courier companies are often among the most well insured companies in business, simply because of the nature of their business. They are almost always handling massive values of goods, and those goods are almost always in a vulnerable position, as there are many different things which can go wrong when goods are moving at 60MPH down a freeway. This is why they are going to carry two different types of insurance at all times. Vehicle and driver insurance are the first category. Every state has different laws as to what type of insurance is available, and what is available to commercial companies like couriers, but most courier companies are going to make sure and take every available insurance option that is open to them in this category.

They are going to have more insurance above and beyond this though. They are also going to have what is simply called courier insurance. This is coverage which is actually protecting your goods. Although it doesn't happen often, packages can get damaged by weather, can be vandalized, can be stolen, or can be wrecked in a collision. This courier insurance protects the value of your shipments against all of those eventualities and more.

This pretty much covers the gamut as far as insurance is concerned, and doesn't leave much for you to be concerned with in terms of providing your own insurance on any element of the transaction. There is one group of people that might need to be worried about extra insurance though, and that is those who are shipping very valuable goods. Courier insurance will only provide a certain amount of coverage. If your goods are worth much more than that coverage, you may need to take out extra insurance to be fully covered for the entire value of your shipment.
