Introduction To ACCA P1

ACCA P1 is the first paper of the P-series. ACCA has four modules and ACCA P1 belongs to the third. While, it marks the beginning of the toughest module or series it is a interesting course itself. The main highlights of the course are mentioned below along with other salient or key features of the syllabus of ACCA P1.

This course, ACCA P1, allows students to utilize their talent and teaches them to use the relevant knowledge in the course to becoming a good accountant. The course is designed to embody all the important aspects of accounting such as:

-Risk control.
-Identification of risk (including accessing).

Aim Of ACCA P1.

ACCA P1 aims at producing capable certified chartered accountants by inculcating in their heart and mind a feeling of responsibility in terms of their professional judgement and ethics as an accountant.

Responsibility and governance- this includes:

-Governance and its scope.
-Remuneration of directors.
-The directors' board.
-Agency theories and agency relationships.
-Board committee.
-Corporate governance and the different approaches to it.
-Governance in terms of disclosure and reporting.
-Social responsibility (corporate) and corporate governance.

Values And Professional Ethics.

-Theories of all ethics.
-Public interest and professions.
-All the different approaches in ethics including an accountant's social responsibility.
-Code of moral values and ethics and their professional practice.
-The characteristics of profession relating to ethics.
-Conflicts (of interest) and the consequences and punishments of unethical behaviour.
-Risk Control.

This Part Of P1 Includes:

-Risk modeling, risk retention and risk avoidance.
-Monitoring risk and targeting.
-Methods of reducing and controlling risks.

Accessing And Identification Of Risk.

-Identification of risk, measurement of risk and its assessment.
-Different categories and kinds of risk.
-Definition and understanding of risk and ways and methods to control risk.

ACCA P1 is a manual paper. The exams are held with a difference of six months in between two consecutive sessions. This means that every year these exams are conducted twice. The pass rate which was seen in 2011 was 51 percent. It is not too good but considering how hard these papers are it is not bad either. The passing percentage is 50 percent and the authorities in the UK check these ACCA P1 papers along with all others. The passing percentage is fifty.

While this discipline, ACCA, is becoming common and everybody seems to get attracted by it, the fact to be considered is the pass rate. As can be seen with the above mentioned percentage (51%) barely half of the total people who actually apply and study for ACCA P1, pass. Therefore, the ultimate number of students who pass and can be called Certified Chartered Accountants is not much. Therefore, the job opportunities are all there for those who want to avail them.That's not an issue.First step is enforce the pass for papers included ACCA P1.
