It is a well known fact that the health and well being of your dog friend depends on the choice of diet you chose to feed him. As a concerned pet owner, you might get confused at times, when shopping around for options, given that so many choices exist in the market today. One of the most basic differences between choices of dog food, is whether to go for the large, dry kibble type, or the moist sort that comes in a can.

A struggle for market share has stood in place between the two types of dog food, for a long time. Consumers stand in between trying to decide which type is actually better for their pet’s health, and for their pocket. New and better brands of each type come out in the market each day, offering higher grade and more natural and nutritious ingredients.

The idea of placing your dog strictly on a canned food diet has gotten a bad reputation in the recent past. Most dog owners would agree that the moist dog food that comes in a can is way too expensive, not to mention owner’s of larger dogs who would need a great deal of cans to make their dog happy.

It is undeniable; however, that canned food has a number of positive qualities that go in benefit for your dog. The one advantage that stands out the most is that canned food allows for chunks of real meat to be inserted as an ingredient. Canned food looks and tastes more like a natural homemade meal than the dry type, which is prone to a larger number of fillers and additives. Serving your dog with high grade food that comes in a can, will most certainly provide a well balanced and nutritious meal with enough protein to get him through the day.

Another aspect of moist, canned food is the fact that it is much more appealing to dogs. Your canine friend will go through an entire plate of canned dog food at much greater speed than his dry counterpart, indicative that he is enjoying his meal. Some pet owners have dogs that are problem eaters, and face an uphill chore when the time comes to feed their dog. Canned food may just be the solution to their problem. Also, your dog might be afflicted with bad teeth and gums, in which canned dog food that he is able to chew will work best at chow time.

The dry type of dog food also has its advantages. The most important being that they keep healthy teeth and gums in your dog. Every time your dog feeds on dry food, his teeth are cleaned just by chewing. Another important benefit is storage. Dry food is often sold in large bags, which you can use and reseal. This is especially helpful for owners of larger dogs that require significant amount of food. But no matter what type of food you decide to feed your dog, always consult your veterinarian and make an informed decision.
