Idaho is noted for its natural landscapes and many lakes. One of which is Bear Lake which had stories of a lake monster dwelling in its waters.

Idaho is a US state along its Pacific Northwest section. Boise is its capital and largest city. The residents are called Idahoans. It is also regarded as the Gem State because it is one of only 2 areas in the world that has star garnets and 6 pointed star garnets. The other area is India’s Himalaya Mountains. The motto of the state id “Esto Perpetua” which means Let it be forever.

Lakes of Idaho

Bear Lake
This natural freshwater lake lies along the Utah Idaho border. It is considered as Utah’s 2nd largest natural freshwater lake. In fact, it is also called as the Caribbean of the Rockies. This is due to its turquoise blue coloration from the water’s suspended limestone deposits. The properties of the waters paved the way for the evolution of numerous unique species living naturally within the lake.

There were even sayings that Bear Lake has been around even 150,000 years ago. This is where stories that the Bear Lake Monster dwells within its waters. The story originated with Joseph C. Rich who later on admitted to making up the story. However, there were people who continuously reports sightings of the monster.

Hayden Lake
This lake is along the Kootenai County of Idaho. It has 494 residents as of year 2000. It is regarded as the Aryan Nation and Neo Nazi organization’s headquarters. It was turned into a Peace Park when acquired by the North Idaho College.

Henrys Lake
This is a shallow, small natural lake that situated along the mountains of Southeastern Idaho. It is on the southwest portion of Henrys Lake Mountains in Northern Fremont County. This is where Henrys Fork gets its waters, as a tributary of Snake River. You will find Henrys Lake Park along its shores.

Lake Cascade
This lake is also called Cascade Reservoir. It is situated along Valley County’s North Fork Payette River by the Boise National Forest. It is also Idaho’s fourth largest lake. Donnelly is its closest town.

Lake Walcott
This is a reservoir along the south central. This was formed due to the damming of Snake River in the year 1909. Within the lake is Bird Island. It is more famous as a fishing and water sports destination. However, swimming here is no longer allowed.

Priest Lake
This lake is situated along the northernmost section of the Idaho Panhandle. This lake dates back to the end of the last ice age about 10,000 years ago. Thus, when the vast glaciers receded, vegetation grew and humans settled in the area. This was proven by the historical artifacts they found around the area as well as the ancient rock art they found along the lake.

Stanley Lake
This is situated along the base of the Sawtooth Mountains of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. It actually drains the Salmon River through Stanley Lake Creek as well as Valley Creek. It is also 2 miles downstream from Lady Lacy falls.

You will find here recreational facilities like 3 campgrounds having nightly fees, a boat launch, day use area and hiking trails. Those who love outdoor adventures are left satisfied with the trails and scenic view of Stanley.

Other Lakes
Other lakes in Idaho are Lake Coeur d’ Alene, Alturas Lake, Lake Lowell, Pend Oreille and Payette Lake (McCall), Pettit Lake as well as Little Redfish Lake, Sawtooth Lake, Redfish Lake and Warm Lake.
