You have seen them advertised all over in newspapers and on websites. You may have even seen them on television. It is the type of race that will challenge you on several levels and you may have the best time of your life doing it. It is a mud race and it is all the rage right now. Before you sign up and literally dive right in, there are some mud race tips you should be aware of that can make the difference between you hating the experience or immediately looking to sign up for the next one.

Running in a mud run is not like your typical road race. Yes, the distances are often the same, but there are several other challenges that come up along the way. Very often the race goes off onto a trail where you will be met by not only pits and paths full of mud, but varying obstacles to deal with like walls to climb, ropes to swing on, cargo nets, bales of hay and more. Some more extreme invents even deploy things like quicksand and barbed wire.

There are several instructions to keep in mind when preparing for this event. First, make sure you are properly trained and in decent physical condition to handle everything. You do not need to be the ultimate athlete, but you should be well prepared to travel the distance you signed up for and have some cardiovascular strength to help with the obstacles.

One training tip that might be helpful is to train in the rain. Since you will be in adverse conditions and have wet clothes and shoes, what better way to prepare than by doing it while it is raining? You could even jump in the pool or soak yourself with a hose before you begin a run to imitate what it will feel like.

Here are a few basic tips that may help you the day of the mud race. Make sure you are well hydrated before the race. Drink at least twelve ounces of water a couple of hours before the run and then add another twelve ounces to go along with every hour of exercise you do. Be sure to take advantage of the water offered to you along the route of the race to help keep you in shape.

Deciding what to wear for the run is also very important. You will want to be sure to wear an old pair of sneakers that you do not care much about or even a pair of boots. With all the mud and water you will encounter, the sneakers you wear will likely be ruined. You may want to stay away from anything that will soak up a lot of water, like cotton sweatpants.

If you follow along with some of these mud race tips, your experience will be better. Do not forget some dry clothes to change into for the ride home afterwards. The most important tip there is for this race is to have as much fun as possible while doing it! Enjoy!
