There are so many things that you can do to help yourself feel better after you get sick. Of course, the goal is to keep from getting sick in the first place. Luckily there are plenty of preventative measures you can take to help keep germs from setting in and compromising your body. Prevention is especially important when it comes to the common cold and the flu-illnesses for which there is no cure but that are commonly spread, especially during cold and flu season. To keep the common cold, and also the flu from getting the best of you, they can be prevented by doing some easy things.

Drink lots of water. You need to have plenty of fluids to drink, starting immediately after the cold hits.

Even when you are in good health, this is still true. It doesn't make any difference if you have a cold or not, or even trying to prevent one, one of the best things you can do, is stay hydrated. With plenty of water in your system, you will be much healthier, and able to fight off germs, which will keep your from getting colds or the flu. Every day you need to be drinking at least sixty-four ounces of water, to be properly hydrated in order to maintain good health. Wash your hands a lot. Think about all of the things you touch each day that have already been touched by other people. There are germs everywhere waiting to attack you, so think about what you can do for prevention. That's pretty gross, right? Prevention starts with keeping your hands washed You can transfer germs, many times during the day, from your hands to another part of your body, your face most of the time. The majority of people couldn't even count the number of times they touch their face, even in a twelve-hour period. Keep your hands clean by washing and you will have a lot less germs being transferred by what you have touched. You can wash away a lot of germs, which will give your health a much better chance to be good.

To improve your health, stop smoking. This is most important during cold and flu season, but basically true all of the time. Smoking irritates your breathing passageways. This makes it easier for cold and flu germs to nestle in and get the better of you. This will give you a greater chance of becoming sick with a cold or the flu. Getting sick when you are like this is most likely, so you should avoid even contact with people who are smoking, because even passive smoke causes irritations.

Helping yourself is sometimes all that can be done when you get sick, but the good thing is, that many things can be done to help. The best thing, though, would be to keep yourself from getting sick in the first place. This is why it is important that you put these tips to work: prevention is the best way to fight the common cold and flu-especially during cold and flu season.
