Training a dog may be one of the most rewarding experiences a pet owner can have. To see their dog sit, stay, and roll over on command is a thing of wonder. However, this sort of obedience and training doesn't happen overnight. Here are some tips to help you get your dog doing tricks.

When you are training your dog, make sure you are very patient. Different dog breeds learn at different rates. One dog can learn quickly while another dog will take a long time. If you are impatient you will stress your dog and he will be resistant to your best training efforts.

To help train your dog, you must be consistent in your use of commands. Your dog will remember the way a command sounds, not the context of the command. For example, if you wish to use the command "come" to summon the dog, only use that command. Do not use a command "here", or "get over here" and expect the same result.

A great tip for properly training your dog is to give your dog enough attention. Dogs thrive on social interaction with their owners. So if they do not get enough attention on a regular basis, then they will likely start performing some type of bad behavior.

Training a dog involves mainly correcting bad behaviors as they happen. One cannot train a dog when it is not doing something that needs to be corrected. By training a dog not to do something as soon as it acts out it can learn quickly when it is doing something wrong.

Housebreaking a dog takes time. The key is to be consistent when teaching him where it's not acceptable for him to relieve himself and consistent in the message that you send as to where you expect him to go. This may be on a pad inside the house, on a lead when you take him outside or running free in a fenced yard.

Give your dog love every time you see him. This is especially important if you are upset with his behavior. If you punish him you can actually do the opposite of what you intend to do. He may become less likely to respond to your training. Be nice, even if he just did something that makes you made.

These tips are just a few of the ways you can make dog training more enjoyable and fulfilling for you and your pooch. You should not consider the training process as a separate phase from your overall dog-owning experience; when you do it well, training can be just as rewarding as any other time spent with your dog.
