If you really want to make a mark in online business, then you have to make sure your site design is up to par. We are always forming impressions and opinions about everything we see, and the same goes for visiting a website. We are visual and the first thing that happens is we get a feeling based on the site design. If you are in business on the net, then your site has to at least not turn people off or make them run away as soon as they land. So we will cover a few of the important website design topics that will make some kind of impact on your visitors.

Give your filenames, which are your webpages, names that actually inform people and bots about your pages. What will occur is the Google bot, because this is for them, will of course read your filenames and this will receive some small number of points for SEO ranking purposes. Your main keyword phrase for that page will go in the filename extension. Totally ignore the use of the underscore here, but what you do want to use are hyphenated phrases. You want your filenames to be read correctly by the engines, and that is how you can do that. Small things like these matter big time when it comes to making your site successful, because they form an important part of your website's design.

Make sure you have RSS Auto-Discovery: If you offer an RSS feed of your website's content (which you should be doing), be sure that you have an auto-discovery code in your website's header. This makes it easier for the different browsers and RSS readers to automatically find your feed and let people know that they can use it. RSS feeds are a wonderful way to alert readers and tell them about any changes that you make on your site; this one little feature can make a major difference in how things run for you.

Use a Favicon: There are small things that make a big difference when it comes down to web design; one such thing is the Favicon or the 'favorite icon'. Favicons give you an easy way to give your website a more legitimate and high quality appearance. This gives you a chance to display a customized icon in the URL box, making your site unique. Another advantage of favicons is that they appear when your pages are bookmarked by users, so this image can become widely known as your site gets more popular.

It all depends on your reason for wanting to learn website design, but the online marketer needs to know about these points. If you do not need to be completely knowledgeable, then stick to the points that impact usability, SEO, etc.
