Have you made room in your suitcase for voltage converters? How about a plug adapter kit? Those are just two important items that many people forget to pack when they travel - often to their dismay later in the trip.

You know you need your passport when you travel. You've probably already got your camera and cell phone charger packed, and may have an emergency repair kit put together to handle such untoward happenings as popped buttons on your favorite shirt or a broken heel on your shoe. With baggage costs going up and suitcase space limited, you've probably pared down to the bare essentials. There are, however, a number of important items that you should probably carry with you because they'll make your life much more comfortable while you're away from home.

Voltage Converters
While most modern hotels supply such things as hair dryers and in-room coffee makers, today's traveler usually carries an arsenal of rechargeable and electronic items that have to be plugged in periodically. While there are some 110 to 220V consumer electronics available, most are still designed to work with either 110V or 220V electrical current. Voltage converters allow your 110V electrical items to run on 220V foreign current, or vice versa. In general, if you're traveling from a 110V country to a 220V country, you'll be looking at step up voltage converters. If you're traveling from a 220V country to a 110V country, you'll be shopping step down voltage converters. If you want maximum flexibility, you can buy step up and down voltage converter/transformers that can do it all.

Plug Adapter Kit
In addition to voltage converters, the savvy traveler also packs a kit of plug adapters or a universal plug adapter. The voltage isn't the only thing that's different about foreign electricity. Every country has its own plug standards. You won't be able to plug in a typical US flat-bladed electrical plug into the outlets in any European, Asian or Australian country. To make it even more complicated, the outlets are different in nearly every country and even sometimes within a country. You can buy plug adapter kits that at the same retail websites that sell voltage converters.

Universal Battery Charger
Your cell phone needs a charger. Your laptop uses a different one. Ditto your MP3 player and your tablet and your camera. By the time you finish packing all of the various battery chargers you need, you may have filled half your suitcase. Trade them all in for a universal battery charger that will work with the voltage converter you chose and give yourself more room to pack important things, like that extra pair of shoes.

Extra Batteries
If you're bringing along battery operated devices that use non-rechargeable batteries, be sure to pack extra batteries for your device. Batteries can be extremely expensive and hard to find in many other countries. If possible, choose devices that use rechargeable batteries and just pack an extra set of batteries with a battery charger.

Bringing your familiar consumer electronics and personal care appliances with you when you travel can make your visit more comfortable and familiar, but you need to bring along the right equipment to make sure you can use them. Shop for voltage converters, plug adapter kits and other electrical equipment for travel at a retail website that specializes in supplying for electronics travel needs.
