Is A Healthy Lifestyle The Key To Healthy Hair?

As we get older it is only natural that our once youthful head of hair will get thinner and thinner. For some though, the onset of hair loss at a relatively young age can be a distressing experience to have to go through. Men in particular are at risk of losing their hair almost completely, a condition known as male pattern baldness. The fact that this condition is a hereditary one means that it often seems there is literally nothing that can be done to prevent the inevitability of baldness.

Perhaps the first step to take when trying to combat a case of hair loss, be it male pattern baldness or otherwise, is to ensure you have a healthy scalp. Poor scalp health plays a role in most cases of hair loss these days, yet it is a simple matter to take care of. To begin with, you should make sure you massage your scalp thoroughly each time you wash your hair. This will ensure the pores of the skin remain unclogged from dirt and dead skin cells. When washing your hair and scalp, try and use a mild shampoo that does not contain too many chemicals. Shampoos that are heavy on the chemical content can strip your scalp of the natural oils it produces to remain healthy.

Still on the subject of scalp health, it is important to improve your chances of preventing baldness by providing yourself with proper nutrition. Lack of a daily intake of the vitamins and minerals your body needs will result in areas such as your scalp becoming under nourished. When this happens, the ability of the scalp to facilitate the growth of strong and healthy hair will be compromised. The hair you have will begin to become weak and brittle, leading to it eventually fall out. Without the right nutrition the scalp will not be able to grow new replacement hair, and so the process of losing your hair is greatly accelerated.

One final step to take when ensuring you have a healthy scalp is to ensure you get some regular exercise. Some good cardiovascular activities such as running or cycling are great at getting your heart beating faster. When this happens your blood will be pumped around the body, and in particular will ensure blood is pumped right up to your scalp where it delivers much needed oxygen. Once you have covered the basics of creating a healthy environment on your scalp to promote consistent and strong hair growth, you will be in a much better position to actually prevent yourself from going bald.

Some of us are pre-programmed by the genes we inherit from our parents to be prone to baldness. Unfortunately there is little that can be done to change our genetic make up. However, some aspects of our modern lives are actually contributing to the speed at which we lose our hair. By not leading healthy enough lifestyles we are actually making the problem worse, and it is something that can be remedied with just a few changes to our daily habits.
