One of the largest automakers in the world, located in the United States, the General Motors Company manufactured Chevrolet Tahoe in the early 1990’s. GMC Yukon, a much similar car is also manufactured along with Tahoe. Today, Chevrolet Tahoe is popularly served as the full size Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) across the globe. In 1994, Chevrolet started the introduction of the four door version which then replaced the then popular Chevrolet Blazer to fully rename it and completely change to Tahoe.

First Generation (1992 – 1999)

Chevrolet Tahoe was initially built on the GMT 400 platform where both two door and four door models were produced. Four door model was although introduced in 1994; the two wheel drive and the four wheel drive started becoming popular by then. The standard engine for the Chevrolet was 5.7L small block V8 and a Detroit diesel V8 engine turbocharged with 6.5L slowly started being available in 1994. Many changes were made starting from the 1994 replacing the predecessor Blazer. The front clip was completely revised and the interiors and side mirrors were also revised gradually which was when the Blazer was renamed as Tahoe. The transmissions, steering system and pass lock security system also were slowly upgraded.

Second Generation (2000 – 2006)

GMT800 platform is where the new redesigned 2000 model of the Chevrolet Tahoe was built. Smaller and new enhanced engines replaced the 5.7L V8. Complete automatic transmission was introduced with a four wheel drive, dropping the manual transmission completely. The same GMT800 Chevrolet Tahoe is known as Chevrolet Sonora in Mexico. A Chevrolet Tahoe Limited Edition model was released in 2000, but it was completely descended from the first generation model of Chevrolet. It was produced for demand purposes but was available only for one model year. Both the vehicles – Tahoe Limited Edition and Chevrolet Tahoe started receiving considerable updates. The grille in the front and the headlights were the only features that distinguished each other during that time.

Third Generation (2007 – present)

The Tahoe and the Yukon were redesigned again in the late 2005’s and were introduced on the new GMT900 platform in 2007. Chrysler advanced hybrid systems were used in the making of these 2008 models. Tahoe name was then used in Mexico for the first time. Enhanced and better redesigned engines were used which were smaller but much powerful. The engines that were used are 4.8L V8, 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8 engines. Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation was the new technology that was used where there was good improvement in the highway mileage where it reached to 22 mpg from around 19 mpg. The fuel capacity of the Chevrolet Tahoe 2008 model was increased to 26 gallons.

The current model (2009 model) is much similar, though the power of the engine has been upgraded to 395 hp from 380 hp. The torque still remains the same as it is in the 2008 model which is 417 lb ft. The 2008 model was already been upgraded from its previous version. 2007 model Tahoe used to produce only 340 lb ft torque.

The current model of Chevrolet Tahoe was very well received even in the global market and the sales only in the year 2009 till the month of August have been 42,401.
