Audi AG, one of the top German automakers, started the production of this compact sports car in 1998. This amazing car comes with a two door roadster or a two door coupe. Frankfurt Motor Show first showcased this concept car in 1995, after being developed for more than a year starting from September 1994. The layout of Audi TT consists of both – a front wheel drive and a Quattro four wheel drive. A powerful transverse front engine is fitted in this sports car.

First Generation

The Audi TT initially came up with a type 8N model with a coupe that was launched in 1998. The roadster body style was later released slowly in 1999. The Audi TT 8N model was produced with both five speed manual and six speed auto and manual transmission. This small but powerful compact car came with a dominant 1.8L 20 valve turbo engine and later with a 3.2L VR6 engine. To increase the turbo boost, the engines featured many internals like a dual exhaust and a larger turbocharger. It also contained an additional charge air cooler beside the driver.

A much enhanced engine with increased power was included in the next released Audi TT Quattro Sport model. This launch saw a better performance car, which gets a top speed to about 155 mph and a sharp reduction in its body weight making it lighter and smoother.

Second Generation

This model is the current model running in the market today. The Audi TT 8J model was launched in 2006, with an upgraded two door hatchback body style. Released on the A5 platform of the Volkswagen Group, it was well appreciated for the design which consisted of the body of aluminum in the front and the rear was made of steel. This provided great balance to the car. It was released with 1.8L I4, 2.0L I4, 2.5L I5, 3.2L VR6 and 2.0 I4 TDI engines and a six speed manual and automatic transmission. The fuel capacities of this model ranged from 55 liters to 60 liters.

Audi Magnetic Ride, the new active suspension featured with this model of the Audi range of cars. The first diesel version of the Audi TT was released as a Quattro model in 2008. The second generation also saw the launching of the TTS Quattro which had a much stronger and powerful engine. Better enhanced and innovative technologies were featured with this model which started its sales in the late 2008’s. The rear spoiler of Audi TT was also upgraded in its newer version that works by automatically extending itself when the car reaches speed greater than 120 kmph and retracts again automatically when the speed is lowered down to 80 kmph. This new version was made available as a two door coupe as well as a roadster and one can also control the extension or retraction of the wing manually with the help of a switch on the dash.

The Audi TT 8J model was better received than the first generation 8N model due to the better and enhanced features and no wonder why this second generation model won many awards like the Top Gear Coupe of the Year, Fifth Gear Car of the Year in the year 2006.
