An effective communication between two parties plays an important role in the business world. The direct form of communication is much better than sending mails that even takes a while to sent message across. So more people would like to communicate directly using phone or doing instant messaging.
Instant messaging is also not an effective way to communicate for a business deal. By only reading words you cannot say anything about the emotions of the other person. How will you judge that your client is interested or not? Or you should refer something else to your client. That's why it's better to communicate with your voice. So that you will be able to judge your client from his sound and the pitch he uses and would be able to decide whether the deal is done or not.
So Phone is the best option of communicating with the client for a business deal, only if meeting is not possible. This is also not a flawless communication but to select the best means of communication is important.
Skype is a good telephony source for client communication. It has a good interface and very cheap. If you don't know how to use it, you can easily learn by reading the instructions plastered over the application. Skype is a very popular application used for business communication and it is good for both voice and video calls. On Skype, you can get free calls only if both persons are using computers. Using Skype, it can also be possible to call from a computer to any mobile handset.
Though Skype is a ready made application, however, SIP (Session Internet Protocol) is designed to implement for creating VoIP (IP PBX) systems and client applications. You can design your own SIP telephony system; you can choose desired applications and features for your own Phone system.
In the business world, everyone uses more developed applications to Skype. First step, that is, establish a good connection. Audibility of sound and voice quality of the phone call comes after that. Echo in the background is the major problem in most of the calls which creates disturbance in the discussion. Call delay is also a problem which causes hindrance. It's not comfortable talking to a person whom you realize to hear after 5 seconds. Similarly, Call breaking is also a problem. You are speaking and after talking a lot you might realize that the other person is unable to hear what you said.
These are very dangerous signs. And it clearly means that you do not choose a good phone system and it could create problems if your business depends on phone calls. However, you can use a regular phone if you want to call a local number. But what happens if your business spreads over the globe? As you know that overseas calls are not cheap and if you have a long time discussion then it would definitely cost you a lot. So, it's better to get a low cost call solution.
In brief, it's better to choose a cheap telephone solution (hosted PBX) for a long term basis. And it's also important to select a solution that gives you good phone call quality where the other person understands your voice clearly, and it should be like using a normal phone. Also, the most important thing is that you can make more money by paying less.
