Every person should have some kind of knowledge and awareness of scabies symptoms, and that is especially recommended for parents of small children. One of the first things you should know is that the symptoms associated with scabies will not appear until two weeks after an infestation has occurred. Even though you will not be able to detect scabies for up to 14 days, they are so contagious during this interim period. That is the worst part, no symptoms and yet still contagious to other people. Despite the fact that you may have impeccable hygiene and your house is exceptionally clean, you are still a candidate for scabies infestation. The scabies mite can spread through direct physical contact or through common items.

The common symptoms for scabies are extreme itching and a pimple-like rash. At nighttime you may experience symptoms that are much stronger than they were during the daytime. Depending on the age group you are in, your itching symptoms may be more or less severe. For example, small children with scabies will usually have skin reactions that are much worse. Another example is that mature adults will, as a rule, have more intense itching symptoms than teenagers or young adults. Skin sores can develop, and all of this can be complicated by the degree of scratching involved.

A scabies infestation may occur, actually, in a variety of locations on the human body. The reason for this is the mites can live outside the body for a short period. So they could be found on things around the house that are shared, and that is how they can spread within a household. If you notice areas of your body, such as your head, that suddenly have blisters, they may not be blisters and all but an infestation of scabies. Several other common anatomical locations include the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. The blisters actually are called vesicles and once you see them, get ready for some serious itching over the next few days.

Throughout nature, scabies has been cataloged in a variety of ways. For example, Norwegian scabies is identified easily and is also known as crusted scabies due to its appearance. Don't worry! Most people do not contract this particular kind of scabies. This type of scabies can actually appear on those that have a weakened immune system.

Those that have AIDS, which is an immune disorder, have been known to get scabies of this strain. Crusted mites or scabies have been found on a few individuals whose immune systems were in perfect working order. If the infestation is extremely bad, it can thrive in an uncompromised immune system. It can be two to four weeks before your symptoms appear if this is your first scabies infestation. If you research scabies mites, you will find there are many different strains, which can cause confusion. So not all scabies will produce the same set of symptoms, although intense itching is a common symptom among all of them. Your immune system doesn't like foreign bodies invading your skin and, as a result, it forms antibodies to fight the foreign invaders. This "war" on your behalf is what causes the intense itching you will experience. All in all, it's imperative that you seek medical attention if you have developed an area, or areas, of skin that exhibit serious itching.
