If you have an email address, you are familiar with SPAM, emails that are unsolicited and have the intent of selling you something or obtaining more information about you. Most people just delete those and go on, accepting that they will be a part of everyday life in the electronic world.

But when you get an email from someone with a hostname that you recognize, it's a little harder to just dismiss it and delete. If you get something from someone who has a Gmail account, you will most likely be more interested, even if you do not know the user name. But, since you are still unsure, it is best not to open it, due to the fact that it, instead you should proceed by trying to obtain information about the sender, such as their name or IP address or location or reason for sending the email with an address and reverse email lookup. At first thought, you might think the best way to go about this is to just respond and ask some questions. There are a few reasons not to do this. First of all, you do not know if the email might contain malicious content, such as a virus or spyware that could undermine the integrity of your computer. Secondly, it does not seem wise to initiate with someone who you do not know and do not know their background or intentions.

So, you can tell from these warnings the you need another way to gather the information you want from the unknown Gmail sender. You need to do a Gmail email search. There are a number of email searches, but you need to make sure that the one you choose has Gmail in its directory. As you are doing some research to find the best email lookup site for you, you can look for one by including "Gmail" in your general web search, then when you are looking at specific sites, make sure they if the search they provide lists subdomains. You can usually find this in the frequently asked questions portion of their site. If you are unable to find any of this information, you can just enter the email address on the search part of the site and see what you get. You do want to make sure that you enter in the email exactly the way you received it in your inbox, being careful to include dots and underscores.

If you do not get any results on your search, do not automatically assume that the email address you are looking for does not exist or is spam. The information obtained by the free Gmail email search sites is limited. But you can still proceed with other options that do no cost anything. Tracing the IP address of the sender can sometimes prove fruitful. You can find that in the header on the email message and can access those headers through your email provider, then you can go to a number of websites that conduct traces based on IP headers. From this you can often obtain some general information to begin narrowing down your search, such as geographical location.

If the free options come us as a bust or you just want more in depth information for your Gmail email search, then you can try some of the sites who offer premium lookup services. There will be a payment for this, but it is often relatively small and the information you can obtain will be well worth it. You can often get the sender's name and address and sometimes even a bit of demographic details.
