Like other cookies, butter cookies may be shaped and frosted depending on your choice. Keeping these butter cookies simple by serving it with some milk still provides the same satisfaction when cookies are decorated and flavoured. Cookies or biscuits are a part of Europeans' daily life and Americans are already acquiring this tradition as well.
The ingredients in making butter cookies include:

. 2 2/3 cups of all-purpose flour
. 1 cup of white sugar
. 1 cup of softened butter
. 1 large egg
. 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
. ? teaspoon of salt

Preparation

Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk the flour and put the salt together. In another bowl or in the bowl of your electric mixer or hand mixer, mix the butter and sugar until it becomes smooth and equally distributed. Beat the egg in another bowl before mixing the vanilla. Combine the flour mixture while continuously using your electric mixer in your bowl with sugar mixture and finally mix in the egg with vanilla to complete the recipe. Mix continuously until a smooth dough is made. Divide the dough in two and put it in a plastic. Refrigerate for 1 - 2 hour/s or up to a week just to make it firm and chill the cookie sheets as well.

Step 2: Roll the dough in a clean dry flat thinly floured surface and flip it from one side to the other, if the dough is still sticky, you may add some flour and every time you roll and turn it. Roll the dough until its ? inch thick before shaping the dough using a cookie cutter. Butter cookies are usually round in shape but you could use a variety of shape cutters and cut as many cookies as you can. Scrape the cut cookies using a spatula and place it an inch apart from the other in the chilled cookie sheets placed in the baking tray.

Step 3: Before shaping the cookies, to conserve and make use of the time, preheat the oven up to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Put the tray in the middle of the oven and cook until the edges are already lightly golden brown in colour for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove the cookie sheets and cool it on wire racks ensuring your safety by using some mittens to avoid getting burned. You may use some powdered sugar for some finishing touches when desired.
